I have been very pleased with this trimmer. It starts easy, has a strong engine, requires very little maintenance, is lightweight, and the line feeds very easily (something that can be a real problem with most trimmers). The oil needs to be added to the machine before using and changed one every year (which is very easy to do). This could be why one reviewer of this item found that their unit melted on first use. Being a 4-cycle engine, it does require oil. I'd strongly recommend this trimmer to anyone who has some serious (or minor) trimming to be done on a regular basis. It's a great all-around option. You will not be disappointed.

It is a little difficult to put together but with patience it can be done.
On my first two wheeled weed eater, the round knob at the very bottom of the weed eater (which touches the ground when you cut the weeds) wore out in my second year of grass cutting.
I bought another weed eater but before I started using my second weed eater, I purchased a PVC pipe cap (from Lowes) and attached it to the steel round knob. This way when the PVC cap wears out I won't have to buy another weed eater...I simply replace the PVC cap. It would be wise for Weed Eaters Engineers to come up with something semilar to this so that the buyer wouldn't have to buy another weed eater. I could have purchased the bottom portion of the weed eater but that cost was half of the cost of a new weed eater. At least now I have a spare motor if I should need it.
Having said all this, I would still buy another Two Wheeled Weed Eater. It is an absolute back saver, a delight to use and plenty of power to get the job done. It will cut small diameter weeds but if you have very large (1/4") diameter weeds you might consider something like a Dr Trimmer/Mower.

This unit came apart when I first pulled on the starter rope (just as you've seen described in most of the other 1-star ratings). I was initially assured of warranty service by "Outdoor Store" the original seller, "Dixie Sales" the wholesaler and "Poulan" the manufacturer. And now the warranty service shop tells me that I have to pay for the repairs because Poulan has refused to. Poulan also hasn't responded to my last e-mail. Anyway, Poulan and Weedeater has lost my business for life and I'll go out of my way to warn anyone who will listen. And then there's also Husqvarna, they apparently own Poulan. Don't buy this trimmer until you've looked at the negative reviews. I assure you they are true stories. And BTW, repair shop says the unit was assembled wrong in the factory.

i purchased a refurbished trimmer thinking that all the kinks would be out of it, after putting on the handle the only thing i needed to assemble it started right up, however the head didn,t spin, i called the company they sent me to a repair shop around the corner where it was fixed in 1 week no cost to myself, I have since become the weed wacking queen my niebors think i've gone insane, It is so light and easy to move and navigate thru my gardens.

I bought this model at Walmart in 2004 for less than a 0 and have used it roughly every weekend since. So far I estimate I have about 300 hours logged in on this thing. So far, I haven't even cleaned the filter, nor had any maintenance issues, or even changed the spark plug once. I always planned to just run the trimmer into the ground and then buy another one but this thing won't die. The only thing wrong after 5 years is it won't idle on the run setting any longer so I keep it on the half choke setting and it runs fine there.

Most importantly, I live in the tropics where the grass grows about 3 inches a week and this thing still gets the job done.

The line at .65 is a bit flimsy and I go through quite a bit of it, so if you have tough weeds and hit rocks a lot your line will break so go for a heavier model. However, if you just want to edge your lawn once a week, I highly recommed this unit.

I never thought that cheap looking plastic thing would work for as long as it has - I am impressed.

This is the single most frustrating piece of lawn "equipment" I have ever owned and used in 48 years.
Takes many, many pulls to start, (yes, I follow the instructions to the letter), and still I struggle.
Once started, WHEW, it runs better on "half or partial choke setting", then it does in "run" setting.
I have had mine about one year and now when I do get it started and move it to "run" in immediately stops. (It has done this since I bought it brand new.)
If am ever so fortunate to get it to operate in the "run" setting it stops as soon as I pull the trigger to use it.
It is also so INCREDIBLY LOUD, YES, I AM SHOUTING TO MAKE A POINT!!
Without ear plugs I actually have an earache in both ears when I am doing using it for 10 minutes.
I am so very, very disappointed in so many ways!
I don't even know that I would donate it to a charity to be "fixed".
Why give them my problems, I am sure that have enough of their own.
Don't waste your money on this one!

Dangerous Product! - Michael L. Vincent -
I recently purchased the CMD Chrome Dome when my old trimmer head finally gave out. I loved the idea of having a metal bump head. I have a small farm and I do lots of trimming. I attached the trimmer head per the instructions and everything fit just fine.

Immediately, I noticed that although the top of the trimmer head connected via a bolt to the shaft of the trimmer, the bottom of the Chrome Dome head simply snaps on to the top. There are no screws or bolts that hold the two pieces together. I went ahead and started it up and within 15 seconds the bottom of the head flew off in multiple directions. I gathered all of the pieces and reviewed the instructions. I gave it one more shot. Immediately after starting the trimmer it flew apart again.

I have emailed the company and communicated the above results. I also watched the videos on their website and this particular trimmer head is not included.

This product is not safe and should be avoided.

After seeing this one on Amazon.com it looked like agreat deal nad it was.
After takeing it out of the box i put on the gaurd put in fresh gas and after about 5 pulls it cranked up an ran great. Used it for 2 hours with no problems at all. Very pleased with this trimmer.

1st. I have never had a problem with Amazon and I am glad I purchased NEW through Amazon.

I have had a Weed eater SST25 for over 10 yrs and this is the new replacement. I was very pleased with the Weed-eater. I just received the Poulan P2500 and the box looked as if they rolled it from California to Louisiana and it rattled when I picked it up.

Beware if you are having this shipped to you!!

Packaging sucks and plastic pieces are poorly designed. I will report on how the trimmer actually works when I get the piece I need to replace. The AirBox, pn 530059267, came out broken in three pieces. It is suppose to be a single molded part. I was fortunate that it wasn't four or five pieces.

Read the return policy. Since this is a gasoline operated device, it can not be returned - safety shipping issues. Poulan Manual clearly states not to return the product to retailer. It is a slight hassle to get to Poulan Warranty because of their automated phone system.

If you buy the product at a store, make certain the box has NO damage or you can look at the actual trimmer. Open the plastic cover on the side of the engine to reveal the orange air cleaner holder and inspect that the choke handle works, remove the air filter and watch the choke move. Inspect the air box and make sure it has no cracks and is whole. DO NOT buy an OPENED box.

If you are having the product shipped, be prepared to receive it with something broken. It is poorly packaged. My box appeared unopened yet when I opened the box, the contents appeared as if it had been repackaged because parts and manual and an empty bag came out with no packaging holding them, nor protecting them.

I am an engineer so repairing this one will be relatively simple once I get the part. I almost bought the refurbished Weed-Eater SST225 but I am glad I did not. The only reason I bought this online was because I could not find the P2500 nor the SST25 locally. I hope this one works as well as the SST25 and if so, it will be worth the minor inconvenience.

This is our second polan weedeater/brush cutter, the first one was good but we have a very large yard with pond and long driveway which all need weedeating, and it just wore out after a few years. Carb ajustment and trimmer line - L. Estwick - Barbados
The trimmer was easy to start initially but unlike other trimmers if it cuts out you have to put it back on choke to get it started again. My machine does not idle and often cuts out when on full trottle. Ajusting the carb screws would solve this problem but you need a special tool to do this. This tool does not come with the machine and is hard to get. The line assembly is wasteful. Every time the string gets too short you have to throw away about 7 inches of string. I changed the head to get rid of this problem. WHERE CAN I GET THE TOOL TO AJUST THE CARB?

Toro Trimmer? yeah right - William Walter Pyle -
I purchased a Toro reconditioned trimmer. Problem is I received a Ryobi trimmer instead! (I have a Ryobi trimmer that is nearly new- only used 3 times and will not run. I am a mechanic and the parts to fix will cost more that the trimmer is worth)
I am in the process of trying to get my money back, but the seller has not contacted me yet.

I've had one of these for five years. It is certainly powerful enough for my small, suburban yard that is within reach of a 50' extension cord, and I have never thought about the weight (that being a good thing). The power is enough that I do not wear sandals, and I do wear safety glasses (a cool (not dorky?) looking DeWalt tinted/UV pair I picked up as an Amazon cart filler). I'd say the durability is good as I am in the class that while I don't abuse my tools, I don't baby them either; I put them to the task.
I can see from the picture that B&D has fixed the main problem I have with mine (it has the shorter edge guide with the mount that breaks). I had had it with that edge guide, so I bought a same-priced Craftsman. I tried the Craftsman for 20 min. I spent more time re-starting the string than trimming (I am definitely returning it; it's heavier, too). So I decided to take another stab at fixing my B&D ST4000, and I finally came up with a good fix (I'll try posting a customer image). I imagine I'll get a few more good years out of it.

We've been through 3 extension cables by now. It's very easy to cut right through them. But I guess if your extremely careful and not in a rush then it will work just fine. This is a powerful tool, but I'll be getting a gas one after the spool on this one runs out.
